Gymnastics Set New School Record on Beam to Highlight All-American Challenge

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – The Brown gymnastics team set a new program record on beam on Monday, one of many highlights for the team at the All-American Podium Challenge at Mohegan Sun. Junior Julia Bedell tied her own school record on floor by scoring 9.950, and freshman Lindsey Yang tied for fourth all-time in program history on beam, tying a mark held by classmate Emily Ford and Olympian Alicia Sacramone.
All told, Brown finished with a team score of 193.975, topping Bridgeport (193.125) and West Chester (192.825) in the meet's first session. When combined with the second session, Brown finished second overall behind only Southern Connecticut State (194.150).
Starting off on bars, Brown scored 48.250, led by Liza Marcus at 9.775. Lauren McKeown followed at 9.750 and Maya Davis scored 9.725.
Next on beam, the Bears set a new program record at 48.950, surpassing the previous school record of 48.925 from 2023. Yang set a new career-high to lead the squad at 9.875 to tie for first place in the session. Jessica Lin and Lauren Kramer both followed at 9.800. Marcus scored 9.775 and Angela Xing scored 9.700.
After tying her own mark for No. 2 in program history each of the last two meets, Bedell stepped up and tied her own program floor record by scoring a 9.950 to take home first place in the session. Sophia Dewar was next for Brown and set a new career-high at 9.875. Xing also scored a career-high at 9.800, and Kramer registered a 9.750. As a team, Brown totaled 49.050 on the event.
Rounding out the meet on bars, the Bears finished with a 47.725. Xing led the team with a season-high 9.750, followed by Dewar at 9.700, and Bedell at 9.675.
