PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â Senior Kaley Doyle posted a career-high 50 saves as Brown women's hockey fell in overtime at home to No. 6 Cornell, 2-1, on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears (11-14-3, 7-11-3 ECAC) picked up a point in the conference standings, while the Big Red (21-6-1, 16-5-0 ECAC) clinched the four seed in the upcoming ECAC Tournament.
Senior Anna Gallagher scored her first goal of the season and fifth of her career. Brown killed three Cornell power plays.
"I think our special teams finally popped off this game," said Head Coach Melanie Ruzzi. "Yes we only scored one goal, but he had a ton of chances on net. We knew we were going to have limited opportunities on offense and would have to play shutdown defense, and we did that. This is the first time in a while that we've stolen a point from Cornell. This is another step forward for the program and with it being the last weekend of the regular season we need to keep trending the right way."
After a scoreless first period where Doyle had 18 saves, Gallagher broke the scoreless streak with a power-play goal from freshman Ava DeCoste and senior Meadow Carman with 10:04 left in the second.
The Bears held onto that lead until 5:35 remaining in the third period when Cornell's freshman Piper Grober scored from sophomores Georgia Schiff and Mckenna Van Gelder to send it to overtime.
Cornell went on the power play six seconds into the extra period and senior Izzy Daniel sent home the game winner with assists from junior Rory Guilday and sophomore Grace Dwyer.
Brown concludes the regular season at home against No. 4 Colgate at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Bears will honor their senior class of Cassidy Piersiak, Maya Mangiafico, Meadow Carman, Anna Gallagher, Olivia Williamson, Lily Lacey and Kaley Doyle.
