Men's and Women's Track and Field Begin Season Strong

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Track and field programs began their season at three separate meets this past weekend. A large majority of the teams competed at the 38th Alden Invitational at the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center (OMAC) on Saturday.
Brown's host event featured three female athletes earning top 10 school records. Alyssa Jackson ran the fourth fastest 60 meter race in school history, while Elle Riley ran the eighth fastest 60 meter hurdles in school history. Zoe Carter-Konate also improved her personal record, moving up to ninth all time in the weight throw.
The men's team finished fourth with a score of 82 points while the women's team was victorious with a score of 148.
MEN
URI HEPTATHLON
Four male athletes competed for the Bears in the Heptathlon qualifier at the University of Rhode Island this weekend. The sophomore transfer from Duke, Gabriel Thai, was the best of the bunch, finishing second with a score of 4,607. Sophomore Emmett Forrestel (8th/3962 pts), senior PJ McManus (10th/3,822) and first-year Link Lignell (11th/3,768 pts) rounded out the Bears competitors.
ALDEN INVITATIONAL
In the long jump final, Frank Monahan-Morang finished third with a jump of 7.07 meters and Mubaraq Aderogba finished sixth with a mark of 6.95 meters.
In the high jump, sophomore Hunter Springer was T-16th with a mark of 1.77 meters.
In the weight throw, sophomore Keith Daigneau finished third at 18.86 meters, while Ethan Wordell was sixth with a 16.77 meter throw. Underclassmen James Chafouleas (12th/12.55m), Karon Johnson (14th/13.39m) and Vrishank Biju (21st/12.19m) also competed in the weight throw. Johnson also placed fifth in the shot put with a 15.34 meter throw.
In the mile run, Jason Markopoulos was the lone competitor for the Bears, finishing 17th with a time of 4:36.56.
First-year Trevor Wilder finished first in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.91. Frank Monahan-Morang was fifth with a time of 6.98 and Skyler Hall was eighth with a 7.06.
Wilder was first in the 300 meter dash as well, finishing with a time of 34.45. John Mueller (4th/35.74), Jason Estrada (6th/36.02) and Skyler Hall (9th/36.13).
The men's 1000 meter race was won by sophomore Aaron Caveney with a time of 2:29.12. Jake Haley (5th/2:32.61) and Henry Wood (20th/2:40.80) were the other Bears runners in the 1000 meter men's final.
Junior Kadyn Kabuga finished 9th in the 3000 meter race with a time of 8:55.45. Luke Bodden (13th/9:02.85), Justin Hickey (15th/9:03.07) and Kit Jackson (22nd/9:16.07) were the other finishers in the 3000 meter.
The 4x400 meter race was the final event of the day for the Bears men's team. The foursome of Caveney, Haley, Matthew Wing and Henry Wood finished fifth with a time of 3:34.33.
WOMEN
URI PENTATHLON
Three female athletes competed for the Bears in the Pentathlon at URI on Thursday. Senior Delaney Seligmann earned first place at the event, scoring 3,629 points. Sophomore Rosie Volpintesta finished fourth with a score of 3,157 and first-year Maria Camposano finished sixth, scoring 3,068 points.
BU SEASON OPENER
Scarlet Stimson competed in the mile run and finished 32nd with a time of 5:01.92. Olivia Fraga finished 110th in the 3000 meter race with a time of 10:04.82. Isolde McManus finished 96th in the 5000 meter race with a time of 16:42.71, while Nimrit Ahuja was 107th with a time of 16:56.80.
ALDEN INVITATIONAL
The 60 meter hurdles featured two Bears runners in the top four spots. Elle Riley won the event and set a personal record of 8.6, which is eighth fastest in Brown history. Junior Simone Dunbar finished fourth with a time of 8.97.
In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Alyssa Jackson finished first with a time of 7.58, a personal record and fourth fastest in school history. Kate Scanlan was eighth with a time of 7.96.
The women's weight throw was dominated by the Bears. The best women's weight thrower in Brown history, senior Chidinma Agbasi, was first with an 18.99 meter throw. Jillian Leahy was second with 17.33 meters. Zoe Carter-Konate was third with a throw of 16.95 meters—a personal best that moves her up a spot to ninth best in school history.
In the high jump, junior Nene Mokonchu finished first with a mark of 1.66 meters.
First-year Lillian Kaelber finished third in the mile run with a time of 5:11.8, followed by Juli Gonzalez who was seventh with a time of 5:19.38.
In the women's long jump, senior Jada Joseph earned first with a mark of 5.97 meters and Rachel Bibiu was third with a 5.69 meter jump. Simone Dunbar (8th/5.43m), Danielle Meribe (9th/5.42m), Riya Aswani (13th/5.07m), Naa Annan (16th/4.8m) and Olivia Napoleon (22nd/4.1m) also competed in the long jump.
In the 300m dash junior Kate Scanlan ran a 40.87, good for fifth. Maddy Brooks was sixth with a time of 41.14 and Alyssa Jackson finished 10th with a time of 41.72.
In the 1000 meter race, Nina Kruzewska was fourth with a time of 3:03.67.
The women's 3000 meter race featured four runners in the top six including Sarah Paul (3rd/10:33.42), Julia Soderbery (4th/10:51.36), Olivia Bergin (5th/10:53.46) and Sara Perez (6th/10:53.92).
The highly anticipated triple jump featured 2023 Honorable Mention All American Jada Joseph. Joseph finished first with a mark of 12.55 meters. Rachel Bibiu was third with a mark of 11.12 meters.
The women's shot put was the last event of the day as three Bears athletes placed in the top 5. Lydia Kentis (3rd/12.52m), Nicolette Ducharme (4th/12.27m) and Danielle Meribe (5th/12.04m) were the top three competitors in the shot put for Brown.

The Bears will have some time off before returning to action on Saturday, January 11 for the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
