PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey (8-5-1) swept its weekend with a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross (6-8-1) on Sunday afternoon.
Margot Norehad bookended the game for the Bears, scoring the first goal of the game and picking up an empty-netter to close things out. The two goals were the fourth and fifth goals of the season for Norehad. Ava DeCoste scored her team-high seventh goal of the season and Ella Muralt scored her third of the year.
Seven different Bears finished the night with an assist.
Brown dominated possession with 52 shots, the most since a 56-shot night in the season opener against Franklin Pierce. Anya Zupkofska faced just 19 shots on the night and finished with 18 saves for her second win of the season.
Norehad's first goal came at 9:28 after Victoria Damiani's shot was saved but the rebound came right out front. Norehad took one shot that was also saved but jammed her second attempt past Abby Hornung to make it 1-0.
Less than 30 seconds later, Brown doubled its lead with Iginla collecting the puck behind Holy Cross's goal and sending a backhand pass right to DeCoste in front of the net, who finished with a one-timer.
Holy Cross scored its lone goal at 14:48 in the first to cut into Brown's lead after the first 20 minutes.
Early in the second period, Olivia Fantino stole the puck in Holy Cross's zone and passed back to Ellie Gauvin at the point. Gauvin sent it to Muralt at the top of the far circle and Muralt's wrister went over the shoulder of Hornung for Brown's third tally of the game.
Brown found itself in a 5-on-3 hole midway through the third period but the Bears were able to kill both penalties and keep the Crusaders off the board. Holy Cross looked to have cut Brown's lead in half just after the power play with a goal but Brown challenged the goal and Holy Cross was ruled offside.
The Bears kept Holy Cross off the scoreboard over the last five minutes and added its final goal from Norehad with 1:25 left on the clock.
UP NEXT
Brown will return to ECAC play as the Bears will hit the road to Renssalaer and Union next weekend.
