Women’s Soccer Concludes Regular Season With 1-0 Loss at Dartmouth
11/2/2024 6:55:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Hanover, N.H. - A Dartmouth goal in the 85th minute was the difference as the Brown women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 1-0 loss on Saturday.
"Soccer can be a cruel game sometimes," head coach Kia McNeill said. "Despite the result, I actually thought our team played pretty well today. We generated a lot of chances in the final third, had a goal called back, had some great combination play, and forced Dartmouth on their heels. The ball just didn't fall our way despite the statistics being in our favor."
In the first half, the Bears controlled the possession as they out shot the Big Green 11-2, Brown had a chance to take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as Joy Okonye found the back of the net but the goal was called back due to offside.
In her first start of the season, goalkeeper Gurleen Toor made two saves in the opening 45 minutes, the Bears generated five corner kick opportunities while holding the Big Green to zero. In the first half, the Bears had 57 percent possession
The Dartmouth goal came on a breakaway opportunity from Hannah Curtin, she was able to fire the ball in the left corner of the net.
Overall, Brown out shot Dartmouth 17-7 while generating 10 corner kick opportunities. Gurleen Toor made four saves for the Bears.
"I told the group it was a learning lesson for us to take forward and get better from," McNeill added. "We needed to finish our chances when we have them because all is takes is one chance for a team to change the game, and that's what happened today. Disappointing result but we are happy that we are still competing and have the first round of the Ivy League Tournament next week to bounce back."
Brown will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 8 in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal hosted by Princeton, the Bears will take on second-seeded Columbia with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
