
Women’s Soccer Advances to Ivy League Championship Game With 2-1 Win Over Columbia

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown women's soccer team punched its ticket to the Ivy League Championship Game with a 2-1 win over Columbia in the Ivy League Semifinal on Friday.
The Bears opened the game on the offensive as they controlled the possession battle for the first 10 minutes of the contest. After the first 10 minutes, the field shifted in the Lions' favor. Columbia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal from Nata Ramirez.
The game remained 1-0 until the Bears earned a corner kick, Gianna De Priest was able to find the back of the net straight from the corner, knotting the game at one in the 44th minute. In the first half, Brown out shot Columbia 5-3, Brown goalkeeper Bella Schopp made one save in the first 45 minutes.
In the 46th minute, a handball was called on a Columbia defender as Brown was awarded a penalty kick, senior Lexi Quinn found the back of the net to give Brown a 2-1 lead. After the game when asked about the penalty kick, Quinn said "I just walked up thinking you've done this hundreds of times in training, just trust your training and trust the process and put the ball in the back of the net."
In the 67th minute, Columbia had a chance by Sam Cohn, but her shot was turned aside by Bella Schopp. Following that chance, Schopp turned aside another effort by the Lions in the 73rd minute to preserve the Brown advantage.
Schopp finished the second half with four total saves, all coming after Brown took a 2-1 lead.
"We came back from being down by one goal and that's not easy," Quinn added. "It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears along with a lot of hard work. Everybody just had faith and hope and kept on pushing until the very last whistle, that's something really special and I'm really proud of this team.
Brown will take on the winner of the second semifinal between Princeton and Harvard, kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. Fans can purchase tickets here.
