HANOVER, N.H. - No. 15 Brown women's hockey (5-0-0, 3-0-0 ECAC) defeated Dartmouth (0-5-0, 0-3-0) in the first ECAC road game for the Bears this season. Ella Muralt had the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the game for Brown.
With the win, Brown is off to its first 5-0-0 start since the 1992-93 season. The Bears have also now won their first three ECAC games to start a season since 2003-04.
"It's good to earn the win on the road. The team had to find another way to get the job done today with how the game was unfolding," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "I am proud of their capacity to adjust in the course of the game and to play hard minutes at times to close it out."
Dartmouth started the scoring as Hamilton Doster beat Rory Edwards for a power play goal, putting the Big Green up 1-0. Brown responded less than four minutes later with a power play goal of its own. Cameron Sikich fired one from straight-away just inside the blue line and Ava DeCoste got a stick on the puck to send it past Dartmouth's goalie to tie the game. The goal was DeCoste's fourt of the season and India McDadi and Sikich picked up assists.
Brown took advantage of another Dartmouth penalty late in the third a scramble in front of the net led to the puck going back to Muralt at the top of the far circle wide open. Muralt fired the shot top shelf over the shoulder of Michaela Hesova to put the Bears on top. Sikich picked up her second assist of the day on the goal.
Brown found itself having to kill a penalty with just under five minutes left in the game and held off Dartmouth's six-on-five rush for the last 1:30 to hold on to the victory.
Brown peppered Dartmouth's goal, finishing the game with 27 shots on goal. Rory Edwards saw 21 shots, making 20 saves on the afternoon.
