PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Princeton Tigers in a hard fought Ivy League matchup on Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"Congrats to Princeton, Coach Barlow, and his staff on the win tonight. They punished us on a couple of mistakes which ultimately cost us in a tight game. Our guys fought to the end but ran out of time. We will regroup and prepare for another two games next week," Head Coach Chase Wileman said.
The Tigers were quick to score, with their first goal of the night coming just four minutes into the game. Princeton's Daniel Ittycheria scored on a penalty kick, giving the Tigers a 1-0 start.
Around the midpoint of the first half, Mads Stistrup Petersen took a free kick leaving the Bears with a scoring opportunity. Zion Wharton headed the ball towards the net, but it was ultimately caught by Princeton's goalkeeper Khamari Hadaway.
Pushing through Princeton, Diego Elizalde sent a shot toward the net that hit off the crossbar. Shayne Thompson read the play, picked up the rebound and attempted to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Bears finished the first half with six shots against the Tigers' four.
Princeton opened the second half up with a goal from Will Francis. Jack Jasinski took a corner kick that Francis knocked in, extending the Tigers' lead to 2-0.
In the 61st minute, Jamin Gogo Peters cut Princeton's lead in half. Scott Gustafson set up the play sending the ball to Levi Pillar who made a quick pass to Gogo Peters for the goal.
The Bears ended the game with 10 shots, while Princeton had a slight edge with 12.
Brown will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Worcester to take on Holy Cross at 7 p.m.
