PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Lehigh University Athletics has announced the hiring of Sophia Geier as head coach of the women's tennis program. Geier spent one season with Brown as an assistant coach alongside Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser.Â
"Right from the start of her coaching tenure at Brown, Sophia made an immediate impact on our team with her tennis knowledge, ability to relate to players, great coaching input during matches as well as her incredible organizational capabilities. While I and the team will miss her greatly, I am excited to follow her head-coaching journey at Lehigh,"Â Schmidhauser said.
Geier led the Bears to 10 wins, and an 8-2 home record in her season at Brown. Before her time on College Hill, she spent two seasons at Kenyon College as their senior assistant coach.Â
Prior to coaching, Geier played at the collegiate level at the University of Akron. There, she was a two-time Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, a four-time letterwinner, a three-time team captain, a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlere, and a two-time team MVP. She was also the No. 1 player on the Zips' roster. Geier graduated from the University of Akron in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. She remained at Akron to work as a Graduate Assistant coach for one year while she earned her master's degree in sports management.Â
A native of Burgebrach, Germany, Geier worked at  Cliff Drysdale Tennis in Texas before moving to The Club at Glenmore in Virginia where she served as a Sports Program Manager for junior tennis.
