PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team (13-5) defeated the Bryant Bulldogs (12-6), 6-1, to remain undefeated at home.
The Bears fought through doubles, but the Bulldogs ultimately secured the point. At line one, Hannah Shen and Abigail Lee fell to Natalia Vela and Maria Jose Hernandez, 6-1. Bella Hu and Chloe Qin fell to Yahli Noy and Laura Stypula at the third line, 6-2. The match between Anne Moody and Ali Maguy versus Lucia Pino and Nicole Isman at the second line did not finish.
"Bryant played great doubles at lines one and three and we were not quite able to match their level or intensity, going down 0-1 pretty quickly," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
Transitioning to singles, the Bears swept all of the matches. At the fifth line, Francesca Saroli earned her fifth win of the spring season after defeating Mila Martinez, 6-2 and 6-0. At the first line, Abigail Lee picked up the Bears' second singles win of the day, beating Yahli Noy, 6-4 and 6-1. At line four, Sari Woo picked up the win against Maria Jose Hernandez, 6-1 and 6-2. Anne Yang remains undefeated, earning her 12th win of the season, defeating Laura Stypula at the third line, 6-2 and 7-5. Bella Hu earned the win at the sixth line, 6-1 and 6-3, against Nicole Isman. At the second line, Ali Maguy picked up the win on the first set, 6-2, however her opponent, Natalia Vela, tied it up in the second set, 1-6. The match ended with Maguy winning 10-6 in the third set.
"I was happy to see how our players responded in singles. Abbey played a great match at line one against an excellent opponent. Abbey did a great job using her speed, touch and ability to finish at the net to get a win in this highly entertaining match. Francesca showed a lot of confidence and clarity in her quick win. She is doing a great job using her heavy forehand to stress her opponents. I was proud of the team and their competitive spirit in today's match," Schmidhauser concluded.
