Field Hockey Suffers 3-2 Loss at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Brown field hockey team (7-7, 3-3 Ivy) suffered a 3-2 loss at Cornell (6-8, 3-3 Ivy) on Friday afternoon.
Brown jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Lexi Pellegrino scored her seventh goal of the season with 16 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The goal for Pellegrino put her tied for sixth in program history with 25 career goals.
After the Bears took a 1-0 lead into the second quarter, the Big Red tied the game at one 9:07 into the second. Two minutes later, Cornell took a 2-1 lead
The Big Red took a 2-1 lead into halftime, both teams generated six shots while all of Cornell's were on target. Bears goalkeeper Kylee Del Monte stopped four shots in the opening 30 minutes to keep the Bears within one goal.
Brown took to the offensive to open the second half as Zoe Lawrence scored her fourth goal of the season just 33 seconds into half to tie the game at two.
Following the goal by Lawrence, both sides were held scoreless for the remainder of the third stanza as the game entered the fourth quarter knotted at two.
Cornell took a 3-2 lead with 7:49 remaining in the fourth quarter, following the goal by the Big Red, Brown generated four penalty corner opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net.
Brown out shot Cornell 15-12 as Kylee Del Monte made six saves in the loss.
Brown will return home to wrap up non-conference play when they welcome Providence on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
