PROVIDENCE – Katie McCallum and Mia Karine Myklebust scored for the Bears (8-7, 3-3 Ivy) lifting them to a 2-1 victory over Providence (7-9, 3-3 Big East) Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.
"It was a really great team win and really fun to be able to win the Rhode Island Cup," said Lexi Pellegrino.
The Bear's win ended Providence's seven game win streak in the this series. The Rhode Island Cup showcases the series between Bryant, Brown and Providence College.
Both teams fought through the first half scoreless, but the attack was there. Brown entered the third half with an 8-4 shot advantage.
"I think this was a really great team win for us to keep dominating the game, like today for four quarters having as many shots as we did," said Walsh. "It really helps our program move forward and aligns with our goals. It was great especially to be able to support such an amazing cause with today's Pride game."
The Friars opened up scoring halfway into the third quarter as Friar Cami Crook recorded a goal. She was assisted by Marley Mailloux and Bo Martina.
With less than six minutes in the final quarter, Katie McCallum recorded a goal, her seventh of the season, unassisted.
The Bears took that scoring momentum and ran with it. Just 1:09 remaining, Mia Karine Myklebust recorded a goal, her eighth of the season. She was assisted by Lucy Adams.
"I'm proud of this team for battling back, we continue to dominate on the field, but we face some outstanding goalkeepers throughout the season," said Head Coach Britt Broady. "Asia Porter today was simply awesome in making some saves where it seems like she was just a wall back there, she did a great job."
"Sometimes for teams it gets frustrating, when you've been attacking and you're not in the lead, and I think we did a great job persevering and staying on task and earning the win."
Following today's game, the Bears have recorded a 39 goal season so far, the most goals recorded since 2000 with 50 goals.
