Track and Field Opens 2024 at Dartmouth Relays

HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown track and field programs returned from the holiday break at the Dartmouth Relays on Saturday evening.
The women's team earned wins in six events from six different athletes, and landed 14 athletes on the podium. Junior Jada Joseph helped Brown sweep the podium in the triple jump and set a massive PR for the No. 3 mark in program history, and first-year Jillian Leahy moved up to seventh all-time in the weight throw in her second career meet.
The men saw first place performances from senior John McNeil in the long jump and sophomore Jason Estrada in the 200 meters, while freshman Keith Daigneau posted the No. 10 mark all-time in program history in the weight throw.
WOMEN
Brown swept the top three spots in the triple jump, highlighted by a huge personal record from Joseph, who leapt 12.98 meters for the No. 3 all-time mark in program history and surpassing her previous PR by a whopping 67 centimeters. Senior Daryn Davis took home second place at 11.98 meters, followed by Makaya Fofana in third at 11.59m.
The Bears finished with three of the top four finishers in the high jump, with junior Rudecia Bernard taking home the gold by clearing 1.70m on her first attempt. Senior Chiamaka Odenigbo took second place at 1.65m while junior Lily Reynolds finished fourth at 1.60m.
In the long jump, senior Lauren Yeboah-Kodie took the top spot at 5.84 meters, while Delaney Seligman and sophomore Simone Dunbar each set new PRs with Seligmann leaping 5.54 meters, and Dunbar eclipsing her previous career high by one centimeter at 5.30m.
In the throws, Leahy earned her first career victory by setting a new PR in the weight throw at 17.21m, moving her from 10th to seventh on the program's all-time list. She was joined on the podium by Mackenzie Palinski who took third place at 15.75m. In the shot put, senior Kendra Ezeama took third place overall at 13.77m.
Over on the track, the Bears put three into the finals of the 60 meter dash, with Emma Gallant taking runner-up in 7.75 seconds. In the 60 meter hurdles, Brown runners earned six of the eight spots in the finals, where Brooke Ury broke the tape to win the finals in 8.61 seconds. Odenigbo took second place in 8.85 seconds, with Dunbar setting a new PR in 9.03 seconds to take fifth.
In the 200m dash, Gallant earned the victory and her second podium finish of the day by winning the event in 25.97 seconds.
MEN
Brown took three of the top four spots in the long jump with McNeil winning the gold at 7.20m. Sophomore Frank Monahan-Morang also leapt 7.20 meters to finish in second place. Senior Sam Hurcomb finished fourth overall at 6.86m. In the triple jump, sophomore Joseph Oduro (14.88m) took runner-up with Zach Love taking third place with a new PR of 14.64m
In the throws, Karon Johnson took home third place in the shot put in his second collegiate meet with a new PR of 15.50m. In the weight throw, Daigneau also earned bronze with his performance of 18.34m, which lands in in 10th place all-time in program history. Ethan Wordell also set a new PR for the second consecutive meet to start his career at 16.89 meters.
On the track, Brown took the top four spots in the 200 meters courtesy of Estrada (22.53), Jack Kelley (22.66), Skyler Hall (22.87) and Marcus Gillespie (23.18).
Monahan-Morang ran 6.96 in both the prelims and finals of the 60 dash to earn silver, a time that was 0.14 seconds faster than his previous PR. Love also set a new PR in the finals of the 60 meters, crossing the line third in 6.98. The Bears also had runners place fourth and fifth, with Hall (7.02) and Estrada (7.11) both setting new PRs.
The Bears will return to action next weekend on Sunday, January 14 with a trip to Boston for the UMass Flagship Opener at The Track at New Balance.
