Doyle Shines as Women's Hockey Draws No. 12 Princeton
1/26/2024 9:08:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â Senior Kaley Doyle notched 43 saves and sophomore Jade Iginla sent home her 11th goal of the season as the Brown women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 draw against No. 12 Princeton to pick up 1.5 points in the ECAC standings on Friday night.
The Bears move to 8-12-2 overall and 4-9-2 in the ECAC, while the Tigers are now 12-7-4 and 5-7-4 in the conference.
"You have to start with Doyle tonight, she played out of her mind," said Head Coach Melanie Ruzzi. "I've had the front seat to a lot of impressive games from her, but this was right up there as one of the top that I've seen from her keeping us in it in the first period. We didn't play great in the first, but we started to play better as the game went on, and I'm very proud of the way we bounced back and kept going. Every point matters in our league and to come out with a point and a half is really good. We're fighting for home ice in the first round."
Despite Doyle's 14 first period saves, Princeton was able to get on the board first at the 10:27 mark. Sophomore Emerson O'Leary gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage with assists from seniors Kate Monihan and Sarah Fillier.
Brown came surging into the second and evened things up. After the teams traded shots, freshman Sam Broz found open ice and sent the puck ahead for sophomore India McDadi who found Iginla for the equalizer with 4:35 remaining in the period.
After the scoreless third, Brown had chances in the overtime period, most notably from Broz, but each shot was stopped. Doyle finished with four saves in OT to seal the conference points.
Brown is back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. against No. 8 Quinnipiac at Meehan Auditorium.
