Men's Hockey Drops Weekend Opener at St. Lawrence

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The St. Lawrence Saints (6-12-3, 4-4-1 ECAC) took a 2-1 conference win over the Brown Bears (7-11-1, 5-7-0 ECAC) Friday night at Appleton Arena.
"Playing in the North Country is not easy," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "I thought we had our chances but we didn't convert. It was a good battle in a notoriously hard rink to play in.
"We have a good team bur we are extremely young in most key positions so we are going to have growth moments. I hope this is a growth moment as we head into one of the better teams in the country in Clarkson."
After nearly two periods of scoreless play, St. Lawrence captain Justin Paul tipped a point shot from Mason Waite past goaltender Lawton Zacher (22 saves) to break the deadlock and give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Jan Lasak doubled the St. Lawrence lead just 54 seconds into the third period, capitalizing on a Brown turnover with the assist going to Tucker McIntosh.
With Zacher pulled for the extra attacker, Alex Pineau scored for the third straight game to cut the lead to one with 2:37 remaining.
Brown pressed with the extra attacker in the final two minutes of the game, but were unable to beat St. Lawrence goaltender Ben Kraws (25 saves).
