Men's Water Polo Begins Conference Play With Three Road Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo begins its first weekend of conference play on the road with games at Long Island and Iona on Saturday (Sept. 30) and a dingle game at Princeton on Sunday (Oct. 1).
The Bears begin their trip at Long Island at 1 p.m. before heading to Iona for a 6 p.m. game against the Gaels. Brown will close out the trip at 12 p.m. at Princeton.

SCOUTING BROWN
- Brown comes into the first weekend of conference play with a 5-2 record and is ranked No. 17 in the CWPA poll and No. 18 in the ACWPC poll. The Bears took care of business last weekend with big wins over Mercyhurst (18-5) and MIT (19-8).
- The Bears offense has been a strong point this season as Brown has scored at least 10 goals in all seven games and has scored 17+ goals in four games. The 37 goals in the last two games are tied for the most since scoring 37 in back-to-back games on Oct. 8 and 15 of last season.
- Brown has not had a streak of seven-straight games with double-figure goals since Oct. 22-31 of 2021 (seven games).
- Ilias Stothart leads Brown with 20 goals after a strong weekend, leading the Bears with seven goals over the two games. Stothart also leads Brown with 17 ejections drawn and 13 penalties drawn.
- Daniel Khristich scored six goals last weekend, including a career-best five-goal performance against Mercyhurst.
- The Bears used a balanced attack to take down Mercyhurst and MIT with eight different players scoring against the Lakers and 11 different players finding the net against the Engineers.
- Máté Tymcyna and Trey Rogers led Brown with 10 assists each. Both Thomas Hoffmeister and Mac Berry are second on the team with eight.
- On defense, Tymcyna holds the team lead with 12 steals and Nick Berry is second with nine.
- Kole Newman leads Brown in goal with 29 saves on the season, followed by Joe Gallagher (19) amd Ryan Miele (18).
- Brown will be looking for its first win in a conference opener since Oct. 5, 2019, when the Bears travel to Long Island. The Bears have only played the Sharks once in program history, beating LIU 12-4 in Providence last season.
- With wins over Long Island and Iona on Saturday, Brown would start 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2015 when the Bears went 12-0 in league play.
- Brown has won 25-straight meetings with Iona with the last loss being a 10-9 loss in 2009.
- The Bears will close out the weekend against Princeton, a team that Brown has lost seven-straight games against. The Bears last win came in 2019 at home. Brown hasn't won on the road against the Tigers since 2009.
SCOUTING LIU
- Long Island is 2-7 on the season, coming off a 14-9 against Mercyhurst. The Sharks will play MIT on Saturday morning before taking on the Bears.
- LIU is averaging 9.1 goals per game and allowing opponents to score 14.7.
- Riyad Shehadeh leads the team with 28 goals and Josep Jodra Munoz is second on the team with 19.
SCOUTING IONA
- Iona is 4-6 on the season but won its last three games entering this weekend.
- Andrew Miller has 36 goals to lead the Gaels and Luksa Vlasic is second on the team with 27.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
- Princeton is ranked No. 6 in both national polls and is 11-2 overall on the season.
- The Tigers have eight players with double-digit goals, led by Roko Pozaric with 33 and Vladan Mitrovic with 24.
