PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Kojo Dadzie picked up his third goal of the season in Brown men's soccer's 1-1 draw against Providence College Tuesday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
It was a back-and-forth match with physicality throughout. It was the first tie for the Bears (1-4-1), while the Friars (2-3-2) finish with their second-straight draw. The match totaled 31 shots between the teams.
"It was a good performance from the boys tonight," said Assistant Coach Andy Parker. "You'll always take a point against Providence, a team that scores a lot of goals and is very dangerous in the attacking half. The team competed hard for 90 minutes and we created some good chances. The boys are disappointed, and to walk away with only a point is something we can learn from and take with us as we go into Ivy League play this weekend."
Brown played aggressively throughout the entire match. Dadzie fired the first shot on goal in the third minute, while sophomore Jamin Gogo Peters and freshman Lorenzo Amaral had shots as well in the early minutes.
A flurry of shots in the 32nd minute eventually found the foot of Dadzie, who broke the stalemate off an assist from Amaral, to make it a 1-0 Bears lead.
The teams then traded shots for the reminder of the half and sophomore Henrik Weiper made a big save as Brown maintained its advantage.
Things got chippy in the second half with four combined yellow cards. Providence's grad student Rodrigo Vaza netted the equalizer in the 69th minute.
Brown battled for the remaining 21 minutes and had a corner kick in the final seconds, but the kick went over the net as time expired.
The Bears begin Ivy League competition against Columbia on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
