Women's Crew has Three Boats Medal at Ivy League Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 5 Brown women's crew competed in the Ivy League Championship on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

Winning the silver medal for the Bears was the First Varsity 4, while the Third Varsity 8 and the Second Varsity 4 brought home bronze medals. Brown's First Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, and Third Varsity 4 all finished in fourth place respectively.

Brown finished fourth overall in the team standings with 32 points. Winning the Ivy League Championship was Princeton with 44 points followed by Yale (42) and Penn (38). After the Bears were Radcliffe (23), Columbia (17), Dartmouth (14) and Cornell (6).

Sophomore Caroline Schmitz was named First Team All-Ivy, while junior Dahlia Levine received Second Team All-Conference honors.

The day started with the 1V8 placing second in its morning heat (6.17.259), while the 2V8 also finished second in its heat (6:17.635).

In the fours it was the A4 coming in second in its heat (6:54.035), while the B4 was also second (7:09.414).

Brown's 3V8 then crossed the finish line in second to finish the heats (6:31.264).

Bruno's A4 came away with the top mark of the day with a second-place finish (6:58.789). The boat stayed with first-place Yale (6:55.175) and was in front of third-place Princeton by five seconds (7:03.870).

Brown's B4 crossed the finish line in third with a time of 7:05.993, behind first-place Princeton (6:56.583) and second-place Yale (7:00.937). The 3V8 was also third (6:38.244) with Princeton taking first (6:26.572) and Yale in second (6:29.411).

The 1V8 was only tenths of a second behind Yale for the Bronze medal.

Brown will hope to hear its name called during the NCAA Selection Show, which takes place on Tuesday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. The Championships are May 26-28 at Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
