Softball Wins 10-Inning Game Against Penn in Doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA – Brown softball earned a 10-inning win in the second game of the doubleheader against Penn. The Bears dropped game one to the Quakers 5-4 to start the series.

GAME 1: Penn 5, Brown 4
The Bears dropped the first game of the day 5-4 to Penn. Brown finished the game with six hits all coming from six different players. Vanessa Alexander finished the game with three RBI and Liv Cam scored twice.

Alexis Guevara threw a complete game allowing nine hits and striking out six batters.

Brown got on the board first in the third inning with a two-out single by Alexander to score Kam and Leah Carey. Penn tied the game in the bottom of the third with two runs.

Lily Berlinger scored in the fourth after leading off the inning with a walk. After two outs moved Berlinger to third, an infield single by Katelynn Park brought home the run.

Brown went up 4-2 on a squeeze play by Alexander that scored Kam, who had started the inning with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a groundout.

With two outs in the fifth, a three-run home run by Penn put the Quakers on top for good.

GAME 2: Brown 4, Penn 2 – F/10
Brown started the scoring in the top of the first taking advantage of an error to load the bases. Lily Berlinger singled to bring home Alexander. A double by Penn in the bottom of the inning tied the game 1-1.

Moe Kastens singled in the fifth with one out and two batters later, a double by Hsiao brought home Kastens to put the Bears back on top.

Jodie Aguirre, who started the game for the Bears, allowed a one-out single but got a strikeout for the second out of the inning. After a single, two walks brought home the tying run but Aguirre got a popup in the next at bat to send the game to extras.

Penn threatened with two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but Brown got out of the inning to keep the game going.

In the bottom of the eighth, Penn had two runners on but Alexander made a diving stop on a ball up the middle and flipped to second with her glove for the out to end the inning and keep the game going.

The Bears put two runners on in the ninth but a groundout to third ended the threat for the Bears.

In the 10th, Laurel Moody walked with one out and was run for by Brianna Rodriguez. Rodriguez moved to second on a sac bunt by Berlinger. Julia Gubner stepped to the plate and doubled to center to score Rodriguez. In the next at bat, Dara English doubled to left scoring Jayme Gross to put Brown up 4-2.

Penn got a runner on in the bottom of the inning but Erin Elgas closed out the game with three ground balls.

UP NEXT
Brown will finish its three game series at Penn on Sunday with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m.
