PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball earned a 6-5 win over Dartmouth with a walk-off sacrifice fly by Lily Berlinger to score Erin Elgas on Sunday.
Brown (10-22, 6-9 Ivy) got a huge game from Jasmine Hsiao and survived a five-run fourth inning by Dartmouth (11-17, 6-6 Ivy), to come back for the win.
Hsiao finished the day 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, including two home runs. Both Laurel Moody and Moe Kastens collected two hits as Brown tallied 11 base knocks on the afternoon.
Alexis Guevara picked up the win for the Bears with a complete game performance, striking out five batters. Guevara got out of multiple jams on the day to keep the Bears in the game, including getting out of a bases-loaded jam without giving up a run in the second inning.
Hsiao began her day with a solo shot to left field to lead off the bottom of the second to get the scoring going for the Bears. Tw batters later, Julia Gubner doubled to left field and Niki Kim ran for Brown's first baseman. After stealing third, Kim scored on a single by Katelynn Park to double Brown's lead.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Hsiao got the best of Dartmouth starter Rachel McCarroll again with another solo home run to left, putting the Bears up 3-0.
Dartmouth responded in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs, all unearned after Brown's third error of the game to take a 5-3 lead.
In the fifth inning, Moody singled with one out and was followed by a double from Kastens to put runners on second and third. With Leah Carey and Cristina Barbella running, Hsiao stepped up with a double down the left field line to score both runners and tie the game at five.
Dartmouth had a chance in the seventh to break the tie as a single and one-out double put the go-ahead run 60 feet away but Guevara got a foul out to Dara English at short and a flyout to Brianna Rodriguez in center field to end the inning.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Moody and Kastens hit back-to-back singles and Elgas was brought in to run for Moody. Hsiao stepped to the plate but Dartmouth intentionally walked the Brown freshman to load the bases. Berlinger's fly ball to left was deep enough for Elgas to score for the winning run.
