Track and Field Wraps up Competition at UConn and Providence

STORRS, Conn. – The Brown track and field teams wrapped up weekend competition on Saturday afternoon at the UConn Northeast Challenge, with the women finishing seventh of 19 with 34.5 points, while the men took ninth out of 21 teams with 27 points.
Three track athletes landed marks that hit in the top 10 of the program's all-time top performers list, including freshman Jason Estrada who now ranks No. 5 in the men's 400 meter dash, junior Anjoli Mathew with the No. 4 time in the women's 400 meter hurdles, and junior Lauren Yeboah-Kodie with the No. 6 mark in the long jump.
On Friday, the Bears also had several distance runners take part in races at the unscored Friar Invitational at Providence College.
UCONN NORTHEAST CHALLENGE
Estrada took runner-up in the men's 400 meters with a new personal-best of 47.36, scoring eight team points landing him in fifth place on the school's top-10 all-time performers list. Jack Kelly took home two points in seventh place in 47.76, narrowly missing out on a program top-10 mark of his own by 0.03 seconds.
Zach Love led the Bears in the 100 meter dash at 10.69 seconds. Pearson Brooks led the Bears at 57.44 in the 400m hurdles.
The men's 4x400m relay team just missed out on the No. 10 time in program history by 0.02 seconds, taking second place in 3:12.50 courtesy of Jack Kelley, Jason Estrada, Joshua Lim and Love.
Ronan Folan set a new discus personal record at 45.89, a new best by 40 centimeters. Liam Capozza also had a big PR in the hammer throw by nearly two full meters, coming in at 53.73, his second new PR in the last three meets.
In the jumps, Joseph Oduro picked up five team points with his fourth place showing in the triple jump at 14.82m for a six-centimeter PR. Sidarth Raman scored two team points by clearing a height of 1.98 meters in the high jump to finish seventh overall. Love led Brown in sixth place of the long jump, coming one centimeter shy of his PR at 7.21m.
For the women, Mathew took home second place and eight team points in the 400m hurdles with her new personal record of 1:00.44, surpassing her old benchmark by 0.38 seconds, which she set last weekend. The time ranks No. 4 on the school's all-time performers list.
Senior Amy Willig (1:03.33) also set a new PR while racing in the 400m hurdles.
Junior Emma Gallant set a new 100m dash PR by 0.14 seconds, finishing in 12.01. Juniors Brooke Ury and Chiamaka Odenigbo both scored team points in sixth and seventh places, respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles with Ury finishing 0.04 seconds shy of her PR in 14.09 and Odenigbo coming within 0.01 seconds of the No. 10 spot all-time at Brown in 14.20.
First-year Jenna Lowrey set a new 400 meter personal record in 57.44 seconds. In the 1500m, Julia Schriefer rounded out the top 10 overall at 4:39.79.
In the jumps, Yeboah-Kodie took home bronze with a long jump PR of 6.04 meters to move into sixth place on the top-10 performers list. Makaya Fofana set a long jump PR by 0.13 meters to finish at 5.63 meters, and scored team points in the triple jump with a mark of 11.96 meters, breaking her old PR by 20 centimeters.
Brown earned 12 points from three high jumpers in Nene Mokonchu, Rudecia Bernard and Odenigbo, all of whom cleared 1.70 meters.
The Bears also earned one point from their 4x400m team of Juli Gonzalez, Schriefer, Kaela Brenner and Danna Ofek who finished eighth overall in 3:50.44.
FRIAR INVITATIONAL
Aaron Siff-Scherr led Brown's men with a NEICAAA qualifying time in the mile, finishing 4:11.61, setting a new PR by over two seconds. Evan Sherman took home fourth place in the 3,000 meters at 8:26.08, and Geordie Young finished fourth in the steeplechase, finishing in 9:21.30 to hit a NEICAAA qualifying standard.
Five members of the women's team hit New England qualifying times as well with Stephanie Kriss (2:11.38) and Nimrit Ahuja (2:15.06) each setting PRs in the 800 meters, and Lily Harding (17;40.48), Grace Dorantes (PR-17:41.89) and Emily Moini (17:42.75) in the 5,000 meters.
Brown will compete next weekend at the Alumni Gold Invitational at LSU on Saturday, April 22 in Baton Rouge.
