Women's Water Polo Drops Games to Long Beach State and UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – Brown women's water polo closed out its trip to California, dropping games to No. 9 Long Beach State and No. 6 UC Irvine.

Game 1: Long Beach State 12, Brown 9
Brown had nine different goal scorers but a slow start to the second half doomed the Bears against the Beach.

The Bears fell behind 2-0 but goals by Ella Palmer and Claire Eusey tied the game. After allowing a goal, Brown got goals from Claire Pisani, Madeleine Poissonnier and Alexandra Love to take a 5-3 lead after one quarter.

Sierra Martin scored in the second but was Brown's only goal as the game was tied 6-6 at halftime. Long Beach State started the second half on a 5-0 run to go ahead 11-6 before Brown's final three goals, coming from Claire Poissonnier, Bryan Gioffredi and Sophie Golub.

Game 2: UC Irvine 13, Brown 6
Gioffredi led Brown with two goals but UC Irvine pulled away from the Bears in the second half. The Bears got goals from Gioffredi and Lily Weiser in the first quarter and Claire Pisani and Gioffredi in the second quarter but Brown trailed 5-4 at halftime.

Love and Martin each scored in the third quarter but the Anteaters scored three goals to lead by two after three quarters. Brown was outscored 5-0 in the fourth quarter for the final tally.

UP NEXT
Brown will return home for three conference games next weekend with games against Saint Francis and Michigan on Saturday and Bucknell on Sunday.
