PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball dropped its home opener to Princeton, 1-0 on Friday afternoon in a stellar pitcher's duel at the Brown Softball Field

Brown's starter Alexis Guevara allowed just one run on four hits while striking out three and giving up just one walk. Brown was held without a hit by Princeton starter Alexis Laudenslager, but the Bears had multiple chances in the game against the Tigers and the Bears drew four walks.

The Bears and The Tigers saw one baserunner reach in the first two innings, with Laurel Moody throwing out the steal attempt.

Brown got a chance in the bottom of the third when Guevara walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Guevara moved to third with two outs and Jasmine Hsiao was hit by a pitch, Dara English flew out to left on a sliding grab to end the inning.

Princeton's lone run came in the fourth with a leadoff single followed by a triple to left center. Guevara got the next three runners to keep it a one run game.

In the bottom of the fourth, three walks loaded the bases with two outs but Laudenslager picked up one of her 10 strikeouts to end the inning.

Princeton looked to extend its lead in the seventh, loading the bases with no outs but a baserunning error on a fly ball to left gave Brown two outs. Guevara got a ground out to second to end the inning and keep it a one run game.

The Bears came close to their first hit of the game with two outs in the seventh as Cameron Zytkewicz Ray hit a grounder to the right side but a ranging stop by Princeton's second baseman ended the contest.

UP NEXT
Brown and Princeton will finish off the series on Sunday (March 26) with a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m.
