Baseball to Open Ivy League Play this Weekend at Columbia

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After 14 non-league games to open up the 2023 season, the Brown baseball team is set to head to Columbia for a three-game series to open up Ivy League play.

SCOUTING BROWN (2-12, 0-0 Ivy)
- The Bears are coming off a four-game series at home against Bryant, where the Bulldogs took three out of four. Brown had its two-highest hit totals of the season in Saturday's doubleheader with 14 in game one, and 13 in an 11-3 win in game two.
- Nathan Brasher had his six-game hitting streak come to an end in Wednesday's loss to Bryant. He is hitting .300 over the last seven games.
- Infielder Ray Sass enters the weekend on a six-game hitting streak and is batting .391 (9-for-23) during that stretch.
- Senior catcher Jacob Burley is the Bears leading hitter at .327 this season. He has a hit in 10 of his 13 games this season, and had his nine-game hitting streak snapped on Wednesday against Bryant.
- Starting pitcher Bobby Olsen has won his last two starts against Bryant and Penn State.
- Relievers Christian Keel and Jack Seppings both hold sub-one WHIPS, with Keel holding a 0.90 WHIP and a 2.70 ERA, while compiling 11 strikeouts and two walks over 6.2 innings. Seppings holds a 0.94 WHIP and has struck out 16 while walking just four over 11.2 innings, and is holding batters to a .167 average.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA (7-9, 0-0 Ivy)
- The Lions are coming off an 11-4 win over Manhattan in their home opener on Wednesday.
- Columbia took two out of three games from then-No. 18 Alabama two weeks ago and currently ranks 26th in the nation in RPI.
- Senior outfielder Hayden Schott is among the Ivy League leaders with a .397 batting average and leads the team in home runs (5), runs (16), doubles (6) and OPS (1.173).
- Sophomore infielder Griffin Palfrey is hitting .396 and leads the team with a .466 on-base pct.
- As a team, Columbia holds a league-leading .298 batting average, and ranks second with a team ERA of 6.00.
