SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team defeated Bryant 21-13 Tuesday evening to claim the Ocean State Cup for the 11th time in 13 years.
The Bears, who improved to 4-3 on the season, posted season-high marks across the board in goals (21), assists (9), and points (30). Bryant fell to 4-4 on the year.
A trio of Bears led the way with four goals apiece, with Mia Mascone tying her career high of seven points as she added three assists. Carly Camphausen had a career-high five points and Greta Criqui posted a career-best four goals.
Claire Jeschke had three points, surpassing 100 on her career and becoming just the third player in program history to record both 100 points and 100 draw controls.
Jackie Mason (2G, 2A), Maddie Joyce (1G, 1A), Annie Burton (2G), Marley Wright (1G), Leah Caputo (1G), and Alyssa Levy (1A) all also got on the scoresheet. Wright's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
Jeschke recorded her 100th career point on the first goal of the game when she scored on a free position. After Bryant got one back, the Bears exploded on a 7-0 run to take the 8-1 lead with under one minute remaining in the opening quarter.
Brown twice pushed its lead to nine during the second quarter, but would eventually settle into the 14-6 halftime advantage. Then in the third, the Bears went up by ten twice, but Bryant kept doing just enough to keep the deficit at single digits.
The Bulldogs strung a 4-0 run together to end the third and open the fourth to get the game within six, but the Bears answered with three straight of their own to keep the game out of reach.
Brown dominated on the draw, winning 29 to Bryant's eight. Greta Criqui led the Bears with eight, while Paige Gillen had seven and Emmie Lau had five.
Claire Mahoney made seven saves in goal for the Bears. Margaret Woodberry had four.
Brown returns to Ivy League action this Friday, March 24 when they welcome Columbia to Stevenson-Pincince Field at 4 p.m.
