PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brittany Raphino of the Brown women's soccer team has been named to the United States U-23 Women's Youth National Team roster for the upcoming Thorns Preseason Tournament which will feature three matches against NWSL teams over seven days from March 12-18.
"Brittany has consistently been a standout player in the Ivy League, and across the country in NCAA Women's Soccer," head coach Kia McNeill said. "I am extremely proud of her and the commitment she has shown to develop her game over the years. This is a great event for her to continue to elevate her game and showcase herself with and against some of the best players in the country. It is a tremendous honor to represent your country, and I know that Brittany is deserving of this opportunity."
The USA opens against OL Reign on Sunday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. PT. The action continues Wednesday, March 15 with the USA playing the Portland Thorns at 7:30 p.m. PT. The friendly competition will finish on Saturday, March 18 as the USA faces Racing Louisville at 5 p.m. PT. None of the matches will be streamed.
"When I first found out about my selection, I was speechless," Raphino said. "This means everything to me. It really validated all the work I've put in on and off the field to get to this point. It is a dream to get called up and I'm beyond grateful."
Raphino, the senior from Randolph, Mass., is the back-to-back reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time First Team All-Ivy selection. As a freshman, she was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year. In addition to her conference accolades, Raphino is a three-time First Team All-Region selection and was named a First Team All-American this season after being named a Second Team All-American the year before. She was also named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist following the 2022 campaign.
Her 71 career points are eighth in program history, while her 29 goals tie her for sixth. This season, she became just the second player in program history to post back-to-back 20-point seasons.
Raphino has been the leading scorer on all three iterations of Brown's back-to-back-to-back Ivy League Champion teams. In doing so, she has helped to engineer the longest streak of league dominance since 1997, which was the last time a team won three-straight outright Ivy League titles.
"I wouldn't have this opportunity without my coaches and teammates here at Brown," Raphino said. "They push me every day to be the best player, teammate, and person I can be and I'm going to use that to do my absolute best with the National Team. I'm going into camp with the same grit and determination that has made our team so successful."
Of the 23 players selected to the roster, Raphino is the only representative from the Ivy League.
