Men's Lacrosse Opens Ivy Play at Home Against Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (3-2, 0-0 Ivy League) welcome the Harvard Crimson (2-2, 0-0 Ivy League) to Stevenson-Pincince Field for the 2023 Ivy League opener Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally. Live stats will be available through BrownBears.com.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 3-2 overall record with wins over Providence College, Vermont, and Stony Brook. The Bruno wins are sandwiched between losses to Quinnipiac and #18 North Carolina.
- Brown's offense averages 13.60 goals per game to rank fourth in the conference and tied for 18th in the NCAA. Aidan McLane ranks second on the team with 10 goals and 14 points with Jack Kelly behind him with eight goals and 11 points.
- Brown's man-up offense has seven goals in 25 attempts (28.0%) to rank fifth in the conference.
- The Bears clear the ball well and rank 13th in the nation at .904 (104-115).
- Defensively, Brown ranks 44th in the country with 12.20 goals against per game. Connor Theriault enters Saturday with a .496 save percentage and 12.37 goals against average.
- Matthew Gunty has been strong at the faceoff X throughout the season and enters Saturday with a .595 win-rate (72-121) along with 28 ground balls. Among faceoff specialists with 100 or more faceoffs taken, Gunty ranks second in the conference and 12th in the NCAA.
- Harvard enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record. The Crimson opened the season with a 25-21 loss at top-ranked Virginia before taking wins over Bucknell and Vermont. Harvard fell at home to Michigan last weekend.
- Harvard averages 14.75 goals per game to rank second in the Ivy League and tied for 10th in the NCAA.
- Sam King leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points.
- Owen Gaffney ranks second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 13 points.
- The Crimson's man-up offense leads the conference and is second in the NCAA with 12 goals in 18 attempts. Four players have multiple man-up goals this season.
- Harvard clears the ball at .889 (80-90) to rank in the top-20 nationally.
- Defensively, Harvard allows 14.25 goals per game to rank last in the Ivy League and 53rd in the NCAA. Outside the Virginia game, Harvard allows 10.67 goals per game - which would rank third in the conference and 20th in the NCAA.
- Christian Barnard has started all four games in goal for Harvard and holds a .466 save percentage and 14.19 goals against average.
- Saturday marks the 72nd meeting between Brown and Harvard in a series dating back to 1926. Brown holds the series edge, 36-35, with both teams winning five of the last 10 meetings.
- Sophomore midfielder Ryan Behrens netting his first career multi-goal and first career hat trick in Chapel Hill.
- Behrens is one of six active Bears with at least one hat trick.
- Brown's roster features 10 players from California and 15 players from New York. In total, nearly half of the Bears hail from one of the two states (25-for-51).
- Maryland and New Jersey both have five Bears on the roster for the third-most representatives.
