Ten Brown Gymnasts Earn All-GEC Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ten members of the Brown gymnastics team have been named to the All-Gymnastics East Conference Team, the league announced on Tuesday. The GEC also announced its 2023 Scholar-Athlete winners, a list that includes 18 Brown gymnasts.
The First Team All-GEC squad on each event and in the all-around consists of the top six ranked gymnasts by National Qualifying Score (NQS) as of week 10 of the regular season. The Second Team consists of the 7th-12th ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the regular season.
All told, the 10 gymnasts combined for 12 all-conference awards.
FIRST TEAM
Julia Bedell – Vault (9.825), Floor (9.845)
Abby Contello – Vault (9.790), Bars (9.795)
Angela Xing – Beam (9.805)
SECOND TEAM
Abby Contello – Beam (9.765)
Maya Davis – Floor (9.760)
Umi El Mammann – Vault (9.735)
Liza Marcus – Beam (9.760)
Asta-Sollilja Farrell – Bars (9.755)
Ella Poley – Bars (9.730)
Carolanne Van Zandt – Floor (9.765)
Athletes will also have an opportunity to earn all-conference honors at this Saturday's GEC Championships, which will be hosted by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Gymnasts who finish in the top three of each event will earn First Team honors, while those in spots four-through-six will be named to the Second Team.
Brown will be the No. 2 seed and compete in the evening session at 6 p.m. along with No. 1 Penn, No. 3 West Chester and No. 4 Yale.
Brown also had 18 gymnasts named to the Scholar Athletes List, which was announced on Tuesday. To be recognized as a Scholar Athlete, gymnasts must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or greater throughout the 2021 calendar year. Freshman are eligible based of their Fall 2022 semester grades only.
