Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past Vermont Behind McLane's Career Day

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Brown Bears (2-1, 0-0 Ivy League) jumped to a six-goal lead early in the second quarter and never looked back, taking a 22-12 win over the Vermont Catamounts (2-2, 0-0 America East) on a snowy Sunday afternoon at Virtue Field.
Devon McLane led the Bears with a career-high nine goals and 10 points. Trevor Glavin and Trevor Yeboah-Kodie both finished with a career-high six points.
"Great team win today," said head coach Mike Daly. "I'm proud of and happy for the players. This win was a great reflection of persistence and preparation."
McLane gave the Bears a 2-0 lead 90 seconds into the game with Marcus Wertheim and Yeboah-Kodie picking up the assists, respectively.
After two UVM goals to even the score, the Bears rattled off six straight goals, including two more from McLane, to take an 8-2 lead through the first quarter.
Matthew Gunty dominated the faceoff battle against All-American Tommy Burke in the opening frame, winning 8-of-9 with three ground balls.
Griffin King and McLane pushed Brown's scoring run and lead to eight with consecutive goals early in the second quarter. After Vermont ended the scoring run with a goal from James Basile with 7:41 left in the half, Brown found goals from Ben Locke, Jack Kelly, and Aidan McLane to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
McLane recorded his sixth and seventh goals of the afternoon as the Bears and Catamounts traded goals to start the third quarter. Trailing 14-5, Vermont freshman Harrison Josloff recorded his first career goal and freshman Charles Huntley scored consecutive goals to cut Brown's lead to six at 14-8.
From there, the Bears outscored the Cats 4-1 to finish the third quarter, taking a 19-8 lead into the final frame.
Glavin recorded his third and fourth goals of the afternoon to extend Brown's lead to 10 in the fourth. Aidan McLane found the back of the net for his second of the game and freshman Charlie Cave capped the scoring with his first career goal with 53 seconds remaining.
Between the pipes, Connor Theriault recorded 12 saves to pick up the win. Vermont's Matt Shaffer played the first half and made eight saves. Brooks Catlin made a pair of saves in one quarter of relief and George Egan made four saves in the fourth quarter.

- McLane's nine-goal game is the most by a Bear since Dylan Molloy '17 recorded eight in a 17-6 win over Penn on April 9, 2016. His 10 points are the most since Molloy had seven goals and three assists in a 17-14 win over Holy Cross on March 21, 2017.
- Yeboah-Kodie finished the afternoon with a career-high five assists and six points. It marks Brown's first five-assist game since McLane's effort against Villanova a season ago. He also matched a career-high with five ground balls.
- Glavin recorded a career-high four goals and six points in Burlington.
- Gunty finished the afternoon 19-for-31 (61.3%) with seven ground balls at X, primarily against Burke. The 19 faceoff wins mark a season-high for the senior.
- Brown finished with 49 shots compared to 48 for UVM. However, 36 of Brown's shots were on goal compared to 25 for Vermont.
- Both teams recorded one EMO goal with Brown finishing 1-for-5 and Vermont finishing 1-for-6.
- Brown improves to 9-0 in series history against the Catamounts and 3-0 on Virtue Field. The Bears handed the Catamounts just their sixth home loss since the start of the 2017 season.
