
Baseball Set to Open 2023 Season this Weekend at Georgia State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a long offseason, the Brown baseball team is set for the first pitch of the 2023 season this Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Georgia State. The game will kick off a season-opening, four-game set for the Bears. The Panthers opened up the season with four games at home last weekend. There will be no video broadcast for any of this weekend's games.

SCOUTING BROWN
Brown returns one of its deepest and most experienced teams in recent years, with all eight of the team's projected opening day position players having started at least 17 games last season.
Brown finished sixth in the Ivy League at 13-23 (8-13 Ivy), and was picked to finish sixth in this year's preseason poll.
The Bears top five hitters and top three starters all return to this year's lineup, with infielder Reece Rappoli (.333) and All-Ivy first baseman Ryan Marra (.304/10 HR) anchoring the lineup. First Team All-Ivy selection Tobey McDonough returns for this senior season after ranking third in the league in ERA (3.17). Senior Bobby Olsen and sophomore Santhosh Gottam also return, along with reliever Paxton Meyers, who ranked second in the Ivy League with a 3.16 ERA and earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors. Sophomore Jack Seppings will anchor the back end of the bullpen after picking up two saves and striking out 23 batters while walking only two in 15.0 innings.

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
The Panthers opened up their season last weekend by dropping three out of four games to Cincinnati at home after taking the opening game 12-2.
The Panthers hit eight home runs through the first four games last weekend. Senior outfielder Max Ryerson belted two homers last weekend, following up a 2022 campaign where he hit a school record 22 dingers.
Sophomore outfielder JoJo Jackson hit three homers last weekend to tie for the Sun Belt lead, and drove in a team-leading five runs.
The Panthers were picked ninth in the 14-team preseason Sun Belt Conference Poll. Ryerson and two-way junior Cameron Jones were named to the preseason all-conference team. Georgia State finished the 2022 season 30-27 (15-15 Sun Belt).
