Women's Water Polo Heads to California for Four Games Over Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's water polo returns to the pool with four games in California over the weekend as part of the Santa Clara Tournament.
After going 5-1 in the opening weekend's Bruno Classic, the Bears will make the cross-country venture to play Santa Clara and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday (Feb. 18) and will play Cal State East Bay and San Jose State on Sunday (Feb. 19).
Brown remained at No. 20 in the CWPA Women's Varsity Top-25 poll after last weekend.
Brown was led in scoring last weekend by freshman Ashley Penner who scored eight goals on 12 shots. Both Lily Weiser and Claire Pisani had seven goals with Weiser also handing out a team-high six assists over the tournament.
The Bears were led in goal by sophomore Shauna Franke, who had 45 saves and was named CWPA Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
ABOUT SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara is 2-4 on the season with a 14-5 win over Fresno Pacific their last time in the pool. The Broncos went 1-3 in the Bruno Classic with a win over Siena.
The Bears will take on Santa Clara to open the tournament at 2:20 p.m. ET/11:20 a.m. PT
ABOUT CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
CSUMB is 2-8 on the year with its two wins coming against Ottawa University (Ariz.) and Santa Clara. Shelby Fortune leads the Otters with 13 goals this season.
Brown and Cal State Monterey Bay will play on Saturday at 8:10 p.m. ET/5:10 p.m. PT.
ABOUT CAL STATE EAST BAY
Cal State East bay is 4-3 on the season with wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and La Verne in its last two games. Luna Sarmiento leads the team with 14 goals on the season.
The game between Brown and the Pioneers will be on Sunday at 1:50 p.m. ET/10:50 a.m. PT.
ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE
San Jose State is 4-9 on the season with wins over California Baptist and Cal State Monterey Bay to close out last weekend. The Spartans are ranked 19th in the latest CWPA Women's Varsity Poll
Brown will take on the Spartans to close out the weekend at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
