PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A flurry of goals and a strong defensive effort gave the Brown women's hockey team a 4-1 victory over Harvard Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
The win completes the season sweep for the Bears (9-18-1, 7-14-0 ECAC) over the Crimson (7-18-3, 6-12-3 ECAC) for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Freshman Jade Iginla tacked on two goals, while junior Maya Mangiafico and senior Eva Durandeau also scored for Brown. For Durandeau, it was the first goal in her four-year career.
Junior goaltender Kaley Doyle finished with 28 saves for her eighth win of the season.
Iginla made it a 1-0 Brown advantage with 1:56 to go in the first. After receiving a pass from junior Anna Gallagher, Iginla skated her way around all five members of the Crimson for her 16th goal of the season.
The Bears made it a 2-0 lead with 13:48 left in the second. Junior Sonja Bjornson stole the puck, fired a long shot that was deflected off senior Madie Stockfish, and Mangiafico was there on the rebound for her third goal of the year.
Durandeau found the back of the net minutes later with a deep goal from sophomore Anna Shelden and freshman Maddie Morgan. Harvard got on the board with 7:54 left in the second on a goal from sophomore Rose O'Connor from classmate Mia Biotti.
Doyle stopped eight shots in the third and Iginla sent home an empty netter for her 17th of the year to complete the season sweep of Harvard.
Brown concludes its season on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Dartmouth. The team will honor its seniors: Eva Durandeau, Vivian Lu and Madie Stockfish.
