Men’s Basketball Erases 22-Point Siena Lead to Defeat Saints 71-67

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – "Shooter's shoot". The short and sweet postgame comments from head coach Mike Martin '04 and junior guard Kino Lilly Jr. recapped Brown's (4-9) 71-67 come-from-behind victory over Siena (2-10) on Friday afternoon inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Lilly Jr., honored before tipoff for becoming the 33rd member of the 1,000-point club in program history, connected on two three-pointers in the closing minute-plus to collect the win for Brown.
Mike Martin Postgame
The defense held the Saints to 21.4 percent shooting from deep and forced 10 turnovers in the second stanza, and Brown outscored Siena 28-10 in the paint, and 48-29 overall.
Lilly Jr. scored 24 of his game-high 26 points in the second and added five assists, Malachi Ndur collected three blocks in the second and Nana Owusu-Anane finished with six points and 12 rebounds. Kalu Anya posted 17 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks and Aaron Cooley added 11 points and five boards.
FIRST HALF
Siena rode a 58 percent shooting clip from long distance to a 38-23 lead at the half. Michael Eley and Sean Durugordon combined for 23 points. Kalu Anya leads the Bears with seven points and seven rebounds.
Aaron Cooley soared late in the half for a # scTop10-worthy dunk.
SECOND HALF
A 7-1 Brown run cut the Saint lead to 12 with 17:30 remaining.
Back-to-back steals and blocks extended the Bears run to 11-2 and made it a two-point game with 5:02 remaining following Cooley's free throws.
Brown's defense stymied the Saints and Nana Owusu-Anane's dunk regained possession for the Bears.
Malachi Ndur's steal on one end led to an open three by Kino Lilly Jr. and a one-point game with just over a minute remaining.
On the ensuing Brown possession, Lilly Jr. stepped back and drained another to regain the lead for the Bears (35.9 seconds left) for the first time since the opening free throw.
The run was officially 8-0 for Brown and 10-1 overall as the 22-point Siena lead was erased.
Lilly Jr. drained free throws to ice the game and the home victory for the Bears, 71-67.

The Bears head to New York to take on Stony Brook on Long Island on December 29 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on FloHoops and YouTube.
