Men’s Basketball Falls to Stony Brook 69-65

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Another strong second half by the Bears nearly erased the Stony Brook 16-point lead as Brown (4-10) made it a one-possession game with a minute remaining. The Seawolves (7-6) were able to escape Island Federal Arena with a 69-65 victory.
Kino Lilly Jr. led the Bears with 19 points, Kimo Ferrari added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Aaron Cooley came off the bench with 10 points and seven rebounds. Kalu Anya posted eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
FIRST HALF
Alexander Lesburt Jr. started his first career contest and joined Ferrari in the starting five.
Stony Brook's 14-0 run gave the Seawolves a 16-7 lead early in the opening stanza. Moments later, Brown's defense clamped Stony Brook and the offense got rolling as Lilly Jr.'s three regained the lead, 22-20 with 6:50 remaining.
Brown kept a lead, 34-33, at the half, outrebounding Stony Brook 23-14 and shooting 45 percent from the field. The offense was selfless with 10 assists on 13 field goals.
Ferrari led the Bears with eight points and six rebounds and added two assists and Nana Owusu-Anane pulled down five boards.
SECOND HALF
The Seawolves dominated early in the half and extended their lead to 16. The Bears scored eight unanswered to cut the deficit to eight at the under-eight media.
The run resumed as the Bears' 15-2 rally over 5:32 made it a one-possession game as Owusu-Anane's and-one capped the run.
Anya was fouled with 8.6 left and hit the first of two from the line to cut the Stony Brook lead to two, 67-65.
The Seawolves rebounded the latter attempt and clinched the win with free throws to defeat Brown 69-65.

The Bears return to Pizzitola Sports Center to host Vermont on January 2 at 7 p.m.
