Men's Water Polo Travels to MIT and Harvard to Close Out NWPC Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo will close out NWPC play this weekend as the Bears hit the road to MIT and Harvard on Saturday (Nov. 4).
Brown will begin the day against MIT at 11 a.m. before traveling to Harvard for a contest against the Crimson at 6 p.m.

SCOUTING BROWN
- Brown will hit the road for the final time this regular season as the Bears close out NWPC play with contests at MIT and Harvard on Saturday.
- The Bears will be looking to secure their standing for the NWPC Tournament, which will be held at Harvard from Nov. 17-19. Currently the Bears sit in third place, trailing both Princeton and Harvard who are tied with 7-1 records.
- Brown picked up wins over Long Island and Iona last weekend in the final home weekend of conference play for the Bears. Gabe Chang and Ilias Stothart each had five goals in a game over the weekend. Stothart picked up five goals to lead Brown in scoring against Long Island, while Chang added five goals in the victory against Iona.
- Stothart leads Brown with 76 goals on the season and has drawn a team-high 93 ejections on the year. Stothart's 93 ejections drawn are one shy of half of the entire team's drawn ejections and Gabe Chang is second on the team with 28. Stothart leads the team in games with five or more goals (7).
- Jaxson Tierney is second on the team with 52 goals, 21 steals and 14 field blocks. Tierney scored three goals in both the LIU and Iona games and has tallied at least two goals in 14 of his last 15 games.
- Chang is second on the team with 33 assists and sits third with 50 goals on the year. Chang is also second on the team with four games of five or more goals.
- Ilias Stothart was named NWPC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks on Oct. 19 and Oct. 26. Stothart was also named to the Cutino Award Watch List for Most Outstanding Collegiate Men's Water Polo player.
- Brown has had a 1-2 punch in goal this season as sophomore Kole Newman leads Brown with 86 saves in goal and Joe Gallagher has 83 saves. First year Ryan Miele has added 49 saves during his time in net.
- With three more wins, Brown would earn another 20-win season. With another 20-win season Brown would have three 20-win seasons in their last four years and 11 in the last 13 seasons. Under head coach Felix Mercado, Brown has earned 20 wins in 11 of his 15 seasons.
- MIT is 11-11 on the season but is 1-7 in conference play. The Engineers lone NWPC win came against Long Island last weekend.
- Brown has won both matchups against MIT this season with a 19-8 win in non-conference play and a 16-11 win during NWPC play.
- The Bears have won 22-straight meetings with MIT, last falling back in 2014 in a 9-11 loss.
- Harvard is 21-3 on the season and is 7-1 in NWPC play. The Crimson have won 15-straight games since falling to Princeton on Sept. 30. The Crimson are also 11-1 in their home pool.
- Harvard has won four-straight games against Brown, including a 17-13 win earlier this season. Harvard has won 11 of 12 games with the lone Brown win in the third-place game of the NWPC Tournament back in 2021.
