Raphino's Hat Trick Leads Women's Soccer to Convincing Win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brittany Raphino scored a hat trick to lead the Brown women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at Yale Wednesday evening.
"We had a slow start to the game," head coach Kia McNeill said. "But our team showed a lot of resilience to get back into the game and walk away with a convincing 4-1 result.
"Brittany was outstanding and continues to show her dominance game after game. I was happy that we were able to get a lot of players in tonight so we could rest some legs, and also get some players more experience as we head into our next match against Penn this weekend."
The Bulldogs (5-3-3, 0-2-1 Ivy) struck first on a penalty kick in the 11th minute to briefly hold the lead. Just seven minutes later, the Bears (7-1-2, 3-0-0 Ivy) would answer with a penalty kick of their own. Raphino stepped up and buried it for her first of the evening.
Shots were even in the first half with each team recording three as the Bears and Bulldogs would go into halftime tied at one.
The second half opened with a bang as Joy Okonye's cross into the box found the head of Raphino who made it 2-1 in the 53rd minute. Then, less than one minute later, the Bears earned a free kick to the right of the 18-yard box.
Sheyenne Allen sent it high into the box and Raphino elevated, beating multiple defenders to it, and sent it home with authority to complete the hat trick.
It was the second game in a row at Yale that Raphino recorded a hat trick, having completed the feat last time Brown played in New Haven, earning a 3-2 victory in 2021.
Yale would attempt to answer, but Brown's defense was too strong in the second half, never really letting a true scoring chance materialize for the Bulldogs.
In the 80th minute, Kira Maguire added another insurance goal. Karlie Schlosser played a beautiful ball across the face of the 18 where Maguire ran onto it and sent it sailing into the top right corner.
On the day, shots were 10-6 in favor of Brown, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
With the win, Brown extended its undefeated streak in Ivy play to 24 games, posting a 22-0-2 record dating back to 2018.
The Bears return home this Saturday, Oct. 7 for a 7 p.m. matchup with Penn.
