
Bears fall at Penn in Ivy League opener

PHILADELPHIA – Brown women's basketball (7-6, 0-1 Ivy) fell in its Ivy League opener, 74-53, to Penn (8-5, 1-0 Ivy) on Monday (Jan. 2).
Brown was led by Grace Arnolie with 11 points and Kyla Jones finished with 10 points. Both Isabella Mauricio and Alyssa Moreland tallied seven points for the Bears. Brown shot 41.1 percent from the floor for the game but went just 3-for-21 from three-point range.
The Bears fell behind early, losing the first quarter 25-4 and played uphill the rest of the game. Brown shot just 18.2 percent in the opening quarter, struggling with Penn's defense. Brown tied its season-high with 22 turnovers in the contest.
Jones scored six of her 10 points in the third quarter for Brown and Arnolie had nine of her 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Moreland led Brown with four rebounds and the Bears defense collected 13 steals, led by four from Arnolie.
Penn was led by 28 points from Mandy McGurk and 13 from Kayla Padilla.

Brown will stay on the road as Ivy League play continues with games at Harvard (Jan. 6) and Dartmouth (Jan. 7) next weekend.
