Men's Hockey Hosts Union Friday; Rensselaer Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's hockey (5-10-2, 1-7-2 ECAC) play their first games at Meehan Auditorium in 49 days this weekend, hosting the Union Dutchmen (8-12-1, 3-7-0 ECAC) on Friday and the Rensselaer Engineers (8-12-1, 3-7-0 ECAC) on Saturday in an important ECAC weekend.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
- All fans can pick up $2 concessions as a part of Fan Appreciation Friday against Union. Fans can also participate in a chuck-a-puck contest during the second intermission Friday.
- Friday is also a Bruno Cub Club exclusive with all Cub Club members receiving a free water bottle.
- Brown returns to ECAC conference play with a 5-10-2 overall record and 1-7-2 ECAC mark. The Bears wrapped up non-conference play last weekend with a 6-2 win at eighth-ranked Merrimack.
- Freshman Ryan Bottrill leads the team in goals (6) and points (12) and Cole Quisenberry is second on the team with 10 points.
- Four Bears – Luke Krys, Jackson Munro, Samuli Niinisaari, and Jordan Tonelli – are tied for the team-lead in assists (7). In total, eight Bears have eight or more points to this point of the season.
- Between the pipes, sophomore Mathieu Caron, who has started the last 30 games dating back to last season, holds a 2.40 goals against average and .924 save percentage. His save percentage ranks second in the ECAC and ninth in the NCAA.
- As a team, Brown ranks 27th in the NCAA with 2.71 goals against per game.
- On special teams, Brown's power play clicks at 17.0% (9-53) to rank 41st in the nation. Brown's penalty kill enters the weekend at 74.0% (54-73).
- Union enters the weekend with an 8-12-1 overall record and 3-7-1 ECAC mark.
- After sweeping New Hampshire prior to the New Year, the Dutchmen fell at home against Cornell and Colgate last weekend by 6-1 and 2-1 finals, respectively.
- Tyler Watkins leads the team with six goals through 21 games. His nine points are tied for third on the team.
- Nate Hanley leads Union in assists (13) and points (17). The freshman also leads the team with 54 shots on goal.
- As a team, Union averages 2.43 goals per game to rank eighth in the conference and 43rd in the NCAA. Union's power play clicks at 15.9% (11-69) to rank ninth in the conference and 45th in the NCAA.
- Between the pipes, Connor Murphy has made 19 starts and holds a 3.57 goals against average and .889 save percentage.
- As a team, Union allows 3.57 goals per game rank last in the ECAC and 56th in the NCAA.
- Union's penalty kill ranks at the bottom of the league at 72.7% (56-77). Union ranks 58th in the nation.
- Brown and Union meet for the 64th time in a series dating back to 1989 Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
- Brown holds the all-time series edge, 26-23-14, with a 12-9-9 record in Providence.
- Rensselaer enters the weekend with the same record as the Dutchmen at 8-12-1 overall and 3-7-0 in the ECAC.
- The Engineers average 2.67 goals per game to rank seventh in the ECAC and 37th in the NCAA. RPI's power play clicks at 24.1% (20-83) to rank second in the conference and 15th in the NCAA.
- Senior Ryan Mahshie leads the team with nine goals and ranks second with 14 points. Junior Jakob Lee leads the team in assists (10) and points (16). In total, eight Engineers have double-digit points through 21 games.
- Defensively, RPI allows 3.38 goals per game to rank tenth in the ECAC and 51st in the NCAA. Jack Watson has made 20 starts between the pipes and holds a 3.12 goals against average and .893 save percentage.
- RPI's penalty kill enters the weekend at 75.8% (50-66) to rank tenth in the conference and tied for 51st in the NCAA.
- Brown and RPI meet for the 107th time in series history Saturday at Meehan Auditorium.
- Rensselaer holds the series lead, 65-33-8, in a series dating back to 1951.
- At Meehan, Brown holds an 18-24-4 record against the Engineers.
- Six Bears recorded multiple points in Brown's 6-2 win at eighth-ranked Merrimack.
- Matt Sutton led all scorers with three assists, a career-high for the junior.
- Cole Quisenberry scored two goals in the second period for his first career multi-goal game.
- Bradley Cocca, Luke Krys, and Samuli Niinisaari all finished with two assists.
- Brett Bliss rounded out the group with a goal and assist in the win.
- Nathan Plessis and Cole Quisenberry both scored shorthanded goals in a 36-second span at Merrimack, marking the first time Brown has scored two SHGs in a single game since February 11, 2012.
- Jack Maclellan '12 and Jeff Buvinow '12 both scored shorthanded goals in Brown's 7-6 loss at Colgate in 2012.
- With the win at Merrimack, the Bears finish the non-conference slate with a 4-3-0 record with two wins over top-10 opponents.
- It marks the ninth time since the 1999-2000 season the Bears have finished the regular season non-conference slate with a winning record. Five of those seasons have come under head coach Brendan Whittet.
- The Bears finished 2-2-0 against Hockey East opponents.
