Men's soccer hosts UMass Lowell in home opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team will play its first home game of the season this Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. against UMass Lowell.
The Bears are coming off an exciting 1-0 win over Providence for Chase Wileman's first victory as head coach. The River Hawks are currently in the middle of a 0-3-1 skid after opening the season with a win over St. Francis Brooklyn.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online at BrownBears.com/tickets prior to their arrival at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Fans should either download their digital tickets to display on a mobile device or print them at home prior to arrival.
A free Brown scarf will be available for the first 200 fans in attendance.

Scouting the Bears (1-1-0)
- In the win over Providence, Jamin Gogo Peters was responsible for the goal that gave the Bears the victory. His cross in the 15th minute deflected off a defender and into the back of the net. It was ruled an own goal.
- Connor Smith made seven saves in goal for Brown in his first career victory and shutout. He was named Brown Bear of the Week for his efforts.
- UMass Lowell dropped a pair of games last week, 5-4 to Holy Cross and 2-0 to Merrimack.
- On the season, Vilja Byrkjeland has led the team with three goals and two assists for eight points.
- The River Hawks have switched off goalies in each of their first five games. Jacob Heihsel has started three and posted a 1.33 goals against average and a .826 save percentage. He is 1-1-1 in his starts. Loucas Costeas has started the other two games, is 0-2-0, and has a 3.50 goals against average and a .650 save percentage.
- The Bears are 3-1-0 all-time against the River Hawks with the last meeting coming in 2019.
- In that game, a 1-0 Brown victory, Matthew Chow '20 scored in the 71st minute. Paul Elliott assisted on the goal.
