"It was a good night and we're really pleased to get the result," Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair Jack Roberts said. "We continue to be learning and working on the things we've been talking about. We just spoke to the players and told them 'Don't take for granted how hard it is to win a game in college soccer.' So we're pleased with tonight, but the same with our other games we've played so far, we learn from it and keep doing the right things."
Jamin Gogo Peters led the way for Brown as just one game after having his first career goal wiped off the board by an own goal ruling, the freshman scored two and assisted on another against the River Hawks.
Taha Kina opened the scoring at exactly the three-minute mark. Kyle Gee sent a beautiful corner into the box that Kina headed home. After Lowell evened the score, Gogo Peters gave the Bears back the lead. A nice turn, some fancy footwork around a defender, and a shot from outside the 18 and Gogo Peters had his first career goal.
In the 31st minute, Brown made it 3-1 off a Tanner Barry throw in. After a defender attempted to head the ball away, Harri Sprofera got it across the box to Brady Van Epps, who pushed it to Noah Atanda who converted from six yards out.
Lowell got one more before the end of the half to make it 3-2 Bears.
Gogo Peters got his second of the night in the 61st minute. Just inside the 18, he took the feed from Kojo Dadzie and beat the goalie with a low, hard shot.
Just six minutes later, Gogo Peters assisted Charlie Adams on the Bears' fifth and final goal of the night.
Despite giving up the two goals in the first half, Brown really dominated for most of the game. Shots were 21-10 in favor of the Bears, with a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. Corners were 8-5 for Brown.
In his collegiate debut, Henrik Weiper made four saves, including multiple impressive efforts.
The Bears now turn their attention to a road matchup with St. Francis Brooklyn this Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m.
