PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Miya Grant-Clavijo of Brown women's soccer has been selected to Canada's 21-player roster for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022, as announced by Canada Soccer.
"We know that the experience of competing and being exposed to different styles of play is critical for our young players' development," said Cindy Tye, Canada Soccer's Women's U-20 National Team Coach. "It will be a great opportunity for this age group to be tested on the international stage and we can't wait to get started."
The announcement comes after Grant-Clavijo played for Canada at the 2022 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Canada finished in third place and in doing so, qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
Canada was drawn into Group C and will face Korea Republic on Thursday, Aug. 11, France on Sunday, Aug. 14, and Nigeria on Wednesday Aug. 17. All of Canada's matches will be broadcast live on TSN and RDS. The knockout stage will begin on Aug. 20.
Grant-Clavijo posted an impressive freshman campaign with the Bears as she finished the season fifth on the team with nine points and third with four goals. Both marks led all Brown freshman. Grant-Clavijo also had two game-winning goals on the season, the most on the team outside of Brittany Raphino and Ava Seelenfreund's four.
The Bears open the season on Aug. 26 at Albany.
