
Women's soccer presents team awards, honors seniors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's soccer team recently hosted its year-end banquet where the coaching staff presented its annual awards as well as honored the team's senior class.
The seniors received their white sweaters, while the freshman were gifted their brown sweaters.

Margeson Prell Team Spirit Award – Sheyenne Allen
The Margeson/Prell Team Spirit Award is presented annually to the player who exhibits the most team spirit as voted by the players. The award is in honor of Jane Margeson, "Soccer Enthusiast," mother of Bill Margeson '37, Hall of Fame (Soccer 1970) and Professor Warren Prell who served as faculty liaison to the women's soccer program from 1995 to 2015. His support, advice and enthusiasm for the student-athletes and program was outstanding.
Dobson-Kay Coaches Award – Charlotte DeVaughn
The Dobson-Kay Coaches' Award is presented annually to the player(s) chosen by the coaches for outstanding contribution, dedication, and sportsmanship. The award is in honor of Stan Dobson '58 and Gene Kay '58 for their strong support and promotion of the Brown women's soccer program.
Arlene Gorton '52 Rookie of the Year – Miya Grant-Clavijo and Jessica Hinton
* Two "Rookie of the Year" awards were presented because this was the first year for the freshman and sophomore classes, so there was a recipient from each.*
The Arlene Gorton '52 Rookie of the Year Award is named after a former Brown Associate Director of Athletics. Arlene Gorton was instrumental in keeping Brown women's soccer at the forefront and allowed Brown the opportunity to host the first-ever Ivy League Women's Soccer Championship and the first-ever collegiate women's soccer regional championship. She was a pioneer for all women's sports at Brown in the 70's and 80's. The Arlene Gorton '52 Rookie of the Year Award, initiated in 2015, goes to the outstanding newcomer in the program as voted on by the players.
Sarah Nicholson Outstanding Senior – Lauren Hinton
Initiated in 1996, the Sarah Nicholson Outstanding Senior Award is given to a senior on the team who, through total dedication and loyalty, has given the most of themselves to the good of the team.
Denis Chartier Golden Boot Award – Brittany Raphino
The Denis Chartier Golden Boot Award was initiated in 2011, and is presented annually to the team's leading point scorer. It is in memory of former Assistant Coach, Denis Chartier, who died at the young age of 56 and was a loyal, dedicated coach with the Brown women's soccer program for 15 years.
Ridgely Most Valuable Player – Kayla Duran
The Ridgely Most Valuable Player Award is presented annually to the MVP as voted by the players. The award is in honor of Professor and Mrs. Beverly Ridgely for their outstanding contributions to Brown women's soccer.
R.I.S.E. Award – awarded to KK Haug
The R.I.S.E. award is a new award created this year that recognizes a player on our team who displayed characteristics of Resilience, Integrity, Selflessness, Effort. It acknowledges someone who has shown significant growth as a player as they have dealt with adversity but still show their commitment to the team through their effort, mental fortitude, and moral compass as they navigate the demands of being a student-athlete.
