Brown pounds out 15 runs in win against Yale to take series

Five Bears finished the game with two hits and Kat Clum, Dara English and Brianna Rodriguez each drove in two runs. Katie O'Leary led the Bears with four runs scored and Leah Carey scored three.
Brown (11-15, 3-6 Ivy) struggled early as the rain was coming down, surrendering five runs in the bottom of the first to Yale (6-16, 4-5 Ivy).
In the third inning, Brown finally got the bats going. Nicole Kim was hit by a pitch and Leah Carey walked to start the inning. After a fielder's choice put Kim out at third, Elayna Tsiouplis singled to load the bases with one out and Kat Clum walked to bring home Brown's first run. Dara English stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run double just past the outstretched glove of Yale's left fielder. The inning continued as Alexis Guevara was hit by a pitch but the umpires halted the game as the rain continued to come down.
The delay lasted over 90 minutes, but Brown's bats stayed hot. Brianna Rodriguez singled in the first at bat after the break to score two more runs and tie the game.
In the fourth, Katie O'Leary singled and scored on a double to left center by Tsiouplis, giving the Bears a lead they would not relinquish.
In the bottom of the inning, after a single and walk with one out, Innerst was replaced by Guevara in the circle, who promptly got the next two outs to end the inning.
Rodriguez started the fifth with a single to left and moved to second on a walk by Moe Kastens. Kim singled on a bunt to load the bases. Carey drove in a run on a fielder's choice and in the next at bat, stole second leading to Kastens taking home on an errant throw.
O'Leary was hit by a pitch and Tsiouplis hit a shot to left that couldn't be handled, allowing Carey to score and make it 9-5. Clum then singled to left to score O'Leary and put Brown up 10-5.
With one out in the sixth and two runners on, Carey walked but Yale's catcher threw down to third, wide of the mark, allowing Madeline Charles to score. Brown scored its last four runs on wild pitches.
Yale got a leadoff double in the sixth but Guevara got three-straight outs to close out the game.

Brown will head to Dartmouth for a three-game series against the Big Green beginning on Saturday (April 9) at 12:30 p.m.
