4/2/2022 2:57:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The sixth-ranked Princeton Tigers (6-2, 2-1 Ivy League) scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter en route to a 17-9 conference win over the Brown Bears (5-4, 0-2 Ivy League) Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Brian Antonelli, Darian Cook, and Devon McLane each scored two goals to pace the Bears offensively. Connor Theriault recorded 10 saves between the pipes.
"They're a good team, there were periods where we were aggressive and playing with tempo and had some success, we just need to find the right combinations and the right guys to do that over 60 minutes," said head coach Mike Daly. "We're searching for the right guys to make those plays and like I said, Princeton made plays, and it's our job as coaches to find those combinations to make our plays."
Cook and Antonelli found the back of the net early in the first quarter to give Brown a 2-1 lead over the Tigers, but three straight Princeton goals, including two from Alex Slusher, put the Tigers ahead, 4-2, at the end of the first quarter.
Antonelli, McLane, and Logan Paff scored in the second quarter as the Tigers maintained a two-goal lead at 7-5 at halftime. Princeton goalie Erik Peters recorded eight saves in the first half and finished the game with 15 saves.
Slusher tallied four of six Princeton goals to begin the second half as the Tigers extended their lead to 13-5 with 5:20 remaining in the third quarter.
McLane, George Grell, and Colby Gendron stopped the Princeton scoring run with a three-goal Brown stretch to finish the third quarter and make it 13-8 Tigers with 15 minutes remaining.
The Tigers added four goals to begin the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach, and Cook's second of the game with 2:48 remaining made it 17-9 Tigers.
