PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown Bears (6-4, 1-2 Ivy League) clawed back from a 5-0 deficit at the end of the first quarter to take a 12-10 win over the eighth-ranked Penn Quakers (4-4, 1-3 Ivy League) to pick up its first conference win of the season Saturday at Franklin Field.
Ryan Aughavin (2-2-4), Devon McLane (4-0-4), and Reed Moshyedi (2-2-4) all finished with four points to pace the Bears offensively. Connor Theriault recorded 13 saves to pick up his fifth victory of the season.
"It was a great team win and I'm proud of the guys for grinding the past few weeks," said head coach Mike Daly. "They earned it and played their tails off today. This was a 100% player-earned win and credit to our seniors for getting our team prepared for the game."
The Quakers jumped to a 5-0 lead through 15 minutes at Franklin Field as Dylan Gergar (2), Luke DiGiacobbe, Sam Handley, and Cam Rubin found the back of the net.
Brown responded to the early adversity with a strong second quarter as the Bears outscored the Quakers 7-2 in the frame to bring the score even at 7-7 heading into the halftime break. Five different Bears found the back of the net before Moshyedi tallied consecutive goals late in the second quarter to give Brown a 7-6 lead.
Griffin King and Gergar traded goals to start the third quarter to bring the score to 8-8. McLane then recorded his 29th and 30th goals of the season 45 seconds apart to give the Bears a 10-8 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Entering the fourth quarter with a one-goal lead, Aughavin buried Brown's third man-up goal of the afternoon for a two-goal cushion.
Penn's Gabe Furey brought the Quakers within a goal with his fifth goal of the season with 11:36 remaining, but it was McLane who scored the game's last goal with 2:38 remaining to seal the victory.
