PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the second straight day, Columbia used a six-run rally in the late innings to come from behind and stun Brown baseball on Sunday afternoon. After being held in check for the first six innings by Brown starter Zach Fogell, Columbia tagged the Brown bullpen for 10 runs and 12 hits over the final three innings to come from behind once again and take the final game of the three-game weekend series by a score of 11-6.
Columbia scored 36 runs in the three-game series, with 26 of them coming in the seventh inning or later. The two teams combined for 11 home runs over the three games.

Columbia scored 36 runs in the three-game series, with 26 of them coming in the seventh inning or later. The two teams combined for 11 home runs over the three games.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Fogell tied his career-high with six strikeouts while throwing 6.0 strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits.
- Junior Ryan Marra had a solo home run and RBI single, and scored twice.
- Sophomore Charles Crawford had two hits including a big two-run single in the fifth.
- Junior Derian Morphew reached base three times with a pair of doubles and a walk.
- Freshman Jared Johnson picked up his first career home run while pinch hitting in the ninth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fogell struck out the side in the top of the first, but also was tagged for a solo home run with one out that put Columbia on top. It turned out to be the only run he allowed all afternoon. He needed just 14 pitches to get through the second and third innings, retired eight batters in a row at one point, and did not allow another hit until the fifth inning.
- Marra drew the Bears even right away in the bottom of the first, launching a 2-1 fastball out to left field for an opposite field home run for the second straight day to tie the game 1-1.
- The Bears took their first lead in the bottom of the fifth with some two-out magic from Marra and Crawford. With two outs and Nathan Brasher on second, Marra knocked a 2-1 pitch into right field to put Brown in front 2-1. Ray Sass then singled and stole second, setting the table for Crawford who lined a single to right field to score both and extend the lead to 4-1.
- Columbia started the comeback with a leadoff double and two-out triple off the Brown bullpen in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-2.
- For the third straight game, Columbia used a six-run inning to take the lead late, this time pounding out six hits, including a three-run homer to storm back and take an 8-4 lead.
- The Lions added three more in the ninth on a double and another two-run homer.
- Brown got two runs back, one in each the eighth and ninth innings as Gunner Boree tagged a sac fly in the eighth, and Johnson launched his first career homer to right field while pinch hitting in the ninth.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: GRANT ACHILLES
- "Zach's work during the week has really been paying off. I think it's been good to see him get better as the year has gone on. His stuff continued to stay strong, he worked fast and made the hitters uncomfortable, and that reflected in the box score."
- "It seems like Crawford always has those long at bats where he sees a lot of pitches and that helps later in the game when you've seen 20-25 pitches throughout your at bats. Being simple at the plate had paid off and it has allowed him to have better barrel control."
- "There's a difference between throwing strikes and commanding the baseball by attacking the edges, and we've been in a position where we've pitched to their strengths. Columbia did a really good job and we haven't been able to shut the door."
