Men's Hockey Forces Game Three with Jallen's Overtime Winner at St. Lawrence
3/5/2022 10:13:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
CANTON, N.Y. – Justin Jallen scored the golden goal 2:06 into the overtime frame to lift the Brown Bears to a 2-1 win over the St. Lawrence Saints in game two of the ECAC First Round Series.

Brown and St. Lawrence will square off in a winner-take-all game three tomorrow afternoon at Appleton Arena.

"I just thought we cleaned up some of the puck mistakes we had last night," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "It's two very evenly-matched teams, extremely evenly-matched, so, you try to play mistake-free hockey with the puck because you don't want to give a team needless opportunity. Honestly, I thought they started off with a lot of energy, they got that goal and Caron had to make some huge saves. I thought we cleaned up our game well and played with a lot of energy and tenacity and tried to simplify what we were doing."

After nearly 19 minutes of scoreless play, David Jankowski put the Saints ahead at 18:41 of the frame, finishing a centering pass from Kaden Pickering to beat Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron (25 saves).

The Bears responded quickly as Luke Krys settled a bouncing puck at the top of the slot and wired a top shelf shot with 0.5 seconds remaining to beat St. Lawrence goaltender Emil Zetterquist (26 saves) and tie the game. Wyatt Schlaht and Tristan Crozier assisted on the buzzer beating tally.

The Bears finished the opening period with a 13-11 edge in shots on goal.

The second period finished scoreless as the Bears and Saints went into the third period still tied at 1-1. Crozier had the best chance for either team late in the period, taking the puck to the net with speed, but Zetterquist made the save to keep the game tied.

The Saints held a 9-6 edge in shots on goal in the middle frame.

The third went the same as the second with chances at both ends of the ice. Both teams finished the frame with six shots on goal and went 0-for-1 on power play chances.
Brown jumped out of the gate in the overtime period and had all three shots on goal. Two minutes in, Jallen stopped the puck for Crozier in the neutral zone and made a beeline for the net and finished a centering pass from the captain for the game-winner. Brett Bliss picked up the secondary assist on the overtime tally.

"In overtime you have to keep it simple and get pucks to the net, and that's what we did," said Jallen on the overtime goal.
