Big second half leads women's lacrosse to victory over Dartmouth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run in the second half to claim the 12-7 victory over Dartmouth Sunday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears improve to 2-0 in Ivy League play for the first time since the 2014 season, while the Big Green drop to 0-2.
"We made some adjustments [in the second half] on the draw that were really helpful," head coach Keely McDonald said. "We told them to keep going to cage, keep shooting, shots are going to fall. They did a great job of that against a really good Dartmouth defense."
At the end of a back-and-forth first half, in which the Bears never led and trailed by as many as two, Mia Mascone was able to get a shot to go to tie the game at six headed into halftime. From there, the Bears scored six straight in the second half to go up 12-6, before the Big Green scored their first goal of the second half with 2:08 remaining in the game to lead to the 12-7 win for the Bears.
On the day, Mascone led the Bears with seven points from five goals and two assists. Claire Jeschke had four assists and Maggie Fowler had three points from two goals and one assist. Leah Caputo and Nathalie Ahn each scored twice, while Emmie Lau added one.
On defense, Erin Schafer led the Bears with three caused turnovers. As a team, Brown caused a season-high 12 turnovers.
The Bears were a perfect 20-for-20 on clears on the afternoon, while Dartmouth was only 14-for-21.
Erin Tucker made eight saves in goal for the Bears.
Brown will look to improve to 3-0 in Ivy League action next Saturday, April 2 when it travels to Yale for. 12 p.m. matchup.
