Women's lacrosse, Yale face off in early Ivy battle for first place
4/1/2022 1:42:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – First place in the Ivy League will be on the line this Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. when the 2-0 Brown women's lacrosse team takes on the 2-0 Yale Bulldogs in Connecticut. Princeton also remains undefeated in Ivy play at 1-0, but the Tigers do not play this weekend, leaving the winner of Brown-Yale as the sole 3-0 team in the league.
If the Bears can come away with the victory, it would be just their second 3-0 start to league action in program history, with the first coming all the way back in 1991.
The game will stream live on ESPN+.

Scouting the Bears (5-3, 2-0 Ivy)
- Brown is coming off a 12-7 win over Dartmouth that saw Mia Mascone post a career-day with five goals and two assists for seven points. The junior was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts and currently leads the Bears with 20 goals on the season and is second with 25 points.
- Claire Jeschke tied her career-high of four assists against the Big Green and currently leads the team and Ivy League with 15 on the season. Her 2.14 assists per game is first in the Ivy League and 17th nationally.
- Grad student Maggie Fowler currently sits at 95 points in her career. With five more, she will become the 21st player in program history to reach 100 career points. Her 51 assists are sixth all-time and she can move into the top five with just two more.
- Yale was picked seventh out of eight teams in the Ivy Preseason Poll, but has impressed so far this season with wins over Dartmouth and, last time out, an 11-10 victory over Penn.
- In that win over the Quakers, Yale trailed 10-6 with 13:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, but went on to score five in a row to claim the one-goal victory.
- On the season, Olivia Markert leads the team with 19 goals and 24 points. Olivia Penoyer has a team-high 10 assists.
- While Yale holds the all-time series lead, the Bears and Bulldogs have split the last two meetings with Yale winning in 2020 and Brown coming out on top in 2019.
- In 2020, Jeschke and Alaina Parisella led the Bears with four and three points respectively in the 11-10 loss.
- In the 14-11 Brown win in 2019, Sophia DeRosa had four goals and Maggie Fowler recorded three assists.
