Softball to host Penn for Ivy League series over weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball hosts Penn for a three-game Ivy League series beginning on Saturday (March 26). The Bears and Quakers will play two games on Saturday and a single game on Sunday (March 27).

The first game on Saturday will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the second game of the doubleheader starting roughly 30 minutes after game one ends. Sunday's game also begins at 12:30 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+

SCOUTING BROWN
Brown's offense broke through a slump with a 16-2 win over Holy Cross in game one of a doubleheader against the Crusaders on Tuesday (March 22). The Bears scored the most runs in a game since 2017. In the fourth inning, Brown scored 10 runs, reaching the 10-run mark in an inning for the first time in at least 10 years.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Brown beat Holy Cross 2-0 behind a stellar performance by Erin Elgas in the circle. Elgas earned her first-career win with a complete game shutout. It was the first complete game shutout for Brown since 2019 and the first seven-inning complete game shutout since 2018.

Brianna Rodriguez leads the Bears with a .381 batting average and four doubles on the year. Rodriguez is one of four batters to hit a triple this season. Rodriguez is on a team-high four game streak of reaching base.

Laurel Moody leads the team with three home runs and seven RBI.

Eight different Bears have at least five RBI on the season.

Kat Clum leads the team with 12 hits and has three doubles and five RBI.

Three Bears have ERAs under 3.00 with Elgas leading the way at 0.48 in 14.2 innings pitched. Lauren Innerst has a 2.23 ERA and leads the team with two wins. Alexis Guevara holds a 2.25 ERA in a team-high 28 innings pitched and leads the staff with 18 strikeouts.

SCOUTING PENN
Penn is 5-15 on the season and 1-2 in Ivy League play. Penn took one of three games against Columbia to start the league schedule.

Carrie Phillips leads the team with a 3.48 batting average. Dana Anderson is leads the Quakers with 20 hits, four home runs and 12 RBI.

In the circle, Julia Longo has made the most starts (10) for Penn and holds a 6.70 ERA in a team-high 46.0 innings pitched. Longo has a team-high 28 strikeouts.
